Guidance for the resumption of Golf at oGC

UPDATE 01/07/20

We are delighted to announce that following government guidelines we will be re-opening the clubhouse from the 4th July

Before this can happen a full risk assessment will be carried out and we will be putting in place a number of measures to ensure we adhere to social distancing guidance and keep both you and our staff as safe as possible

We will have in effect 3 areas to consider and those are outlined below, with measures and new guidelines:

Inside the Clubhouse
The club bar & dining room will be re-opened for the consumption of FOOD & DRINK bought onsite ONLY.  For the time being the locker rooms will remain closed
Amendments to normal operations
1 -
We will be operating a one-way system for entry and exit to ensure your safety at all times.
2 - Food & Beverage service will be by table service only.
3 - We will reduce available tables & chairs inside to ensure 2mtr distancing*
4 - We will initially open 12noon-6pm
5 - When we are busy we would ask that you only remain at your table for a maximum of 1hr
6 - Additional sanitisers will be added to the clubhouse.
7 - Please sit with your 4ball, DO NOT mingle with other groups to ensure the reduced 1mtr+ guideline is met
8 - You will be asked for your name when entering the clubhouse so we can hold records for 21 days as set out in the government guidelines

1 - Tables & chairs will be set up on the patio area*.  Please ensure you take your bag/trolley etc to your car prior to taking your table to avoid cluttering up the walkway and again these tables & chairs are reserved for the consumption FOOD & DRINK purchased on-site only
2 - Again these tables will be table service.  Please get your table first, and a member of the team will be over to take your order
3 - This area will be NO SMOKING
4 - You will have seen a hashed area marked behind the first tee.  It is even more important with the opening of the Patio area for dining that this hatched area is kept clear to allow a safe flow of traffic.
Benches (we will be placing some benches to the side of the putting green between the path and the greenkeepers sheds)
1 - These are for casual use.

1 - All payment will continue to be cashless
2 - Don't forget your 10% members discount when using your bar card, so please ensure your card is topped up and use where possible.

1 - Locker rooms will remain closed initially and be reviewed in due course
2 - Disabled toilet will be open for use by anyone dining inside
*please do not move the seating/tables, these have been set up to ensure safe social distancing.

Update 29/05/20

Following the recent announcement by govenment and advice from England Golf the updated playing guidelines for golf at Oswestry Golf Club are explained below. Please read carefully.

1. Current arrangments remain in force until close of business next Friday. Golf can then be played in fourballs comprising individuals from the same or different households for all new bookings for play on or after Saturday 6th June . However the following restrictions will apply.

Sunday to Friday. No Fourballs before 10:00am

Saturday. Fourballs can play at any time

We have decided to introduce some protected times for smaller group sizes as we have received numerous comments on the enjoyment and benefits of the vastly improved pace of play.

The short time lag in reintroducing fourballs is because our booking system works on a rolling '7 days in advance' and there are very many bookings already in the system

2. Playing restrictions re maximum of 4 rounds (with 2 in the afternoon) will remain in place until Sunday 14th June. However we hope to remove this restriction after this date.

3. All other guidelines pertaining to the playing of the game remain unchanged from those issued ahead of golf's return on 13 May.

4. Please note it is essential that golfers continue to strictly observe social distancing and safety regulations relating to the Covid 19 pandemic.

Oswestry golf club will continue to review its operations regularly with the main focus being the safety and best interests of all members.

UPDATE 14/05/20

Since re-opening on Wednesday, we have been able to gauge a general pattern of use. Play is mainly in 2 balls and this obviously puts pressure on a finite number of tee times. Morning tee times are in extremely high demand with the course very busy until lunchtime / early afternoon. Bookings then tend to become more spaced as the day progresses, but we know some members enjoy these ‘quieter times’ as they still feel vulnerable and do not necessarily want to play in a procession of two balls.

We obviously had to start off cautiously but having reviewed matters we believe we can increase members’ access to the course whilst maintaining safety which must remain of paramount importance. It is also desirable to move some of the pressure away from the mornings and spread play throughout the day. I know the greenstaff will appreciate this as they have their daily routines to perform and are working at reduced manpower. Therefore, the reviewed booking policy outlined below is designed to achieve these aims.

From Friday 15th May – Sunday 17th May members can have a second round of golf providing the tee off time booked for the extra round is after 1pm.

From Monday 18th May members can book three rounds of golf / week (Mon – Sun) but one of these rounds must tee off after 1pm.

All play will remain for members only.

Our main considerations when deciding on tee time allocation is based on safety, fairness and equality of access so we can ALL enjoy playing golf in a safe environment once more.

In line with the announcement from the government and published guidelines we are delighted to be able to re-open Oswestry Golf Club for play from 10:30am on Wednesday 13th May 2020.

Please ensure you read, digest and stick to the rules set out below.  Any variance from these rules could lead to disciplinary action for both the individiual and the club.  This is your club, if we all work together on this we can all enjoy golf again.

As always, stay safe and enjoy your golf.
