This year marks the 77th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain and a commemorative service was conducted at Westminster Abbey on Sunday 17th September 2017 by The Very Reverend Dr John Hall, Dean of Westminster. In attendance were Their Royal Highnesses the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall as well as Theresa May and Jeremy Corbyn.
Many of you will have seen the amazing and beautiful floral arrangements which often grace our clubhouse courtesy of member Setsuko Watanabe, who is a member of NAFAS (the National Association of Flower Arrangement Societies). This association provides flowers for every occasion at the Abbey (including William and Kate’s wedding!) and this time it was the turn of the Mercia and North Wales area. Setsuko and her colleague Jan Robinson were chosen to provide two huge arrangements which were placed at both corners of the Quire seats.
Setsuko said, "The colours of the flowers had to be red, white and blue and about 100 flower stems were arranged into 10ft tall all round designs. We were also allowed to attend the service which I will never forget!"
