Oswestry Golf Club was founded in 1903 when a nine hole course was laid out on the top of Llanymynech Hill. Due to problems with the lease and a general feeling that the course was rather remote from Oswestry, a new site, in the grounds of Aston Hall, was identified and negotiations began to move.
The famous golfer and course architect James Braid was engaged to design the new layout and play commenced on the Aston Park course in 1932. The membership subscription at that time was three guineas for men and two guineas for ladies!
With the passage of time there have been slight modifications which reflect the changing nature of the game. The latest course improvements were advised upon by renowned architects Hawtree Ltd. However the course today is still faithful to Braid's original design providing an enjoyable challenge to golfers of all ability.
